Sponsor Bird Shelters for Sparrows in Kolkata

This is a very innovative idea propagated by Biswajit De for conservation of sparrows which are dwindling in numbers in the cities due to lack of suitable homes. Sparrows typically used to make their homes in skylights and window slits. Now... the construction of most homes are such that sparrows are unable to make their nests in coz...y nooks and crannies, a fact which has brought this once common bird to the brink of extinction. The population of sparrows (Passer domesticus) is falling alarmingly and its time we do something to save these birds without whom the image of an Indian neighbourhood remains incomplete....

Not very expensive to sponsor and maintain, each of these homes are priced at just Rs 100! With the onset of a whole new year, indulge in those frivolous resolutions. Maybe smoke a pack less, or drink a coupla less beers or abstain from the cheese filled burger or don't give much thought about the nail-paint you will wear just once... Do your little bit to help the tiny ones survive in this concrete jungle.

Barely two months old, 5 very tiny stray pups are now being given shelter at Anjana's house in Dumdum, since she cannot keep all 5 in her house for very long, we are looking to have them adopted at the earliest...

Staying in a metropolitan city, it is extremely unnerving to realize that there are no organizations, let alone helplines in the city that can help an animal in distress around the clock.
Recently I faced a situation where I was frantic to get help for a dog who was mercilessly being abused by my neighbours. Upon calling up quite a few organizations all I got were vague answers about how they could only help the "next morning".
In situations, like these, waiting for help till the next morning inevitably leads to the death of the abused animal.
Upon interacting with animal lovers across the country, I realized that there are many, like me, who have not only faced such similar situations, but have also been scorned by many for trying to help the animals in need.
Starting from scratch, I would like this page to be a forum for all those who genuninely care about animals and would like to do something in order to help.
Be it talk about the cause, spread general awareness, donate to help animals in distress, give shelter to the ones who need a home...
It really is time to act. There are so many animals facing abuse, trauma and pain on the streets. And so many NGOs, who claim to offer help to them. Sadly, none of them can be communicated with in times of real need...
We, I realize, are not equipped enough to take responsibility of all strays suffering, but whatever little we can do, will not only be a great start, but also the first step towards doing something for a cause we really care about.
